About the Department

The department was established in the academic year 2020-2021 based on the approval of the university council. Students in the psychology department study a variety of courses, including general psychology, an introduction to basic concepts, developmental psychology which covers the stages of development from childhood to old age, social psychology, clinical and abnormal psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, educational psychology, experimental psychology, and health psychology. The job opportunities for graduates of the department are diverse, including but not limited to the educational field, student counseling in schools and universities, the health field in general hospitals and specialized mental health facilities, psychological clinics, the social field in social care homes, rehabilitation centers, and family support centers, the institutional field in human resources management in companies and organizations, and performance development, as well as research and study centers: as a researcher in the field of social and psychological sciences.

The Department of Psychology aims to be a local and regional leader in providing distinguished education and scientific research in the field of psychological sciences, contributing to human development and community advancement, while keeping pace with global developments and preserving the identity and authentic Libyan values.

 

Preparing specialized professionals in psychology equipped with solid theoretical knowledge and high practical skills, capable of understanding and analyzing human behavior, and contributing to providing scientific solutions to psychological and social issues, through a stimulating educational and research environment, and effective community partnership.

  • Excellence in Education: Offering a distinguished academic program that meets global standards and covers the main branches of psychology (experimental, social, developmental, clinical, industrial/organizational, educational)
  • Scientific Research: Encouraging rigorous scientific research that studies psychological phenomena in Libyan society, and contributes to enriching human knowledge and serving community issues.
  • Community development: contributing to raising awareness of mental health through lectures, workshops, and consultations, and collaborating with health, educational, and social institutions
  • Skill Development: Enhancing students' personal and professional skills, such as communication skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, and professional ethics, to prepare them for the job market or for pursuing graduate studies.

I am pleased, along with the family of the Psychology Department at the Faculty of Science and Arts in Ghadames, to welcome you through our electronic portal, to extend a hand of support and partnership to all those interested in psychological and human sciences. In a world characterized by rapid change and increasing complexity, the need for a deep understanding of human behavior and the underlying motivations has never been more pressing. Here, in our department, we believe that psychology is not just an academic discipline, but a human message aimed at contributing to the development of a balanced and healthy individual, capable of understanding themselves, adapting to their environment, and positively contributing to the development of their community.

curriculum

The duration of study in the department is four years, during which the student studies a number of subjects in the field of specialization. The department aims to graduate qualified psychological specialists for the job market and grants a bachelor's degree in psychology.
