About the Department
The Department of Archaeology at the Faculty of Science and Arts in Ghadames represents a scientific window into Libya's rich cultural heritage and a pioneering academic institution in the study and documentation of the treasures of the past across the country. The department emerges from the exceptional location of the city of Ghadames, which is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, to be a center of specialized scientific and research illumination. The department was established in 2023 based on the approval of the university council.

I am pleased to welcome you to the page of the Department of Archaeology at the Faculty of Science and Arts in Ghadames. Our department represents a scientific bridge that connects the richness of the past with the aspirations of the future, and it reinforces our identity through the study and documentation of the great cultural heritage of our country. The mission of the department focuses on distinguished academic education, preparing specialized scientific cadres in the field of archaeology and history, equipped with the latest scientific methodologies and rigorous research. We encourage both field and theoretical research to contribute to uncovering the history of Libya and preserving its heritage, raising archaeological and historical awareness, and participating in the preservation of historical sites as a global human legacy. We also aim to collaborate and build partnerships with local and international institutions concerned with heritage. We believe that protecting heritage is a collective responsibility, and through our programs and activities, we strive to be a center of expertise that contributes to the development of cultural tourism and the preservation of national memory for future generations. curriculum
The duration of study in the department is four years, during which the student studies a number of subjects in the field of specialization, in addition to some training programs in the field of archaeology and conservation of antiquities. The department grants a bachelor's degree in archaeology.
